Health Diagnosis of Haizhou Bay Neritic Ecosystem

    • In light of the characteristics of an open bay neritic ecosystem, a neritic ecosystem health diagnosis index system was established consisting of five categories of diagnosis indices and 24 diagnostic factors. The diagnoses indices are environment status quo, environmental risks, environment background, ecosystem structure and function, and ecosystem stability. Health of the neritic ecosystem of Haizhou bay in December 2009 and in November 2010 was primarily diagnosed. Results show that the neritic ecosystem health diagnosis index system is workable, and the integrated health index value of the neritic ecosystem of Haizhou Bay was in the range of 0.500-0.689 in December 2009, and of 0.553-0.750 in November 2010, indicating that the neritic ecosystem was in a sub-healthy to fairly healthy condition, and the off-shore area was better than the immediately offshore area in health condition, which was supposedly related to the interference and environmental pressure caused by the exploitation of the offshore area.
