Abstract
This study systematically investigates the pollution hazards and the current status and requirements of environmental risk management of toxic and hazardous chemicals in auxiliary materials for shield tunneling both domestically and internationally. In response to the current issues in China, such as the lack of environmental management for chemical auxiliary materials in shield tunneling, the lag in environmental risk prevention and control, and the insufficiency in technical support capabilities, the study proposes suggestions for strengthening the environmental risk management of chemical auxiliary materials in shield tunneling, oriented by the national needs for environmental and health risk management. These suggestions include screening a list of high-volume, high-hazard chemical substances used in shield tunneling, assessing the environmental risks of substances on the list, establishing a green access model to prevent pollution at its source, and clarifying the classification methods and treatment requirements for shield tunneling muck and to implement classified management of muck. This study will effectively support the construction of green rail transit projects and provide theoretical methods and data for the government to formulate the environmental management policy of shield tunneling.
