Measurement and Evolution Analysis of the Ecosystem Service Value of Beijing′s Wetlands

    • The precise assessment of the value of wetland ecosystem services can provide decision-makers with a basis for balancing ecological and economic development. This paper estimates the value of wetland ecosystem services using various economic assessment methods such as the market value method, replacement cost method and travel cost method. The study results show that from 1984 to 2020, the value of Beijing's wetland ecosystem services increased in phases, from 53.266 billion yuan in 1984 to 185.655 billion yuan in 2020. During the 1990s, the value of wetland ecosystem services increased rapidly, but then declined significantly due to the impact of socio-economic development. After 2004, the value of wetland ecosystem services began to increase annually and remained at a high level. Among the individual values, the value of climate regulation and flood storage services of Beijing's wetlands are the highest, the value of recreational tourism services has grown exponentially, and the value of other wetland ecosystem services are relatively stable. The study results can provide important references for future urban planning and ecological protection.
